Building on the momentum from the previous year, 2024 has been a sensational one for both Mealzo and our partners. From investing in large-scale, customer-centric campaigns and participating in major events, to refining our range of hardware solutions, we’ve continued to spread the benefits of zero commission across the UK. As we approach 2025, let's take a moment to reflect on the standout moments that made this year truly remarkable!
Celebrating Pride, Supporting Takeaway Owners, and Engaging Freshers
In the past 12 months, Mealzo has pushed boundaries, reaching new customers in fresh locations and extending our support to local communities. The year kicked off with a bang as we exhibited at What’s Cooking 2024? and the UK Food & Drink Expo in Edinburgh and Birmingham. These events gave us a chance to meet thousands of small business owners who are trying to break free from high commission rates and are eager to embrace Mealzo’s zero commission model, welcoming existing partnerships while forging new ones. This summer, we put ourselves front and centre in diverse, vibrant communities. We proudly supported and celebrated the LGBTQ+ community by participating in Glasgow's Pride March, showcasing Mealzo’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and social responsibility. At the Foodies Festivals in Glasgow and Edinburgh, we engaged with families, offering fun and exciting exclusive ‘Spin to Win’ prizes, while big names entertained the crowds. Lastly, we tapped into the next generation by connecting with thousands of students at Glasgow's Freshers Fair. With exclusive discounts and prize giveaways, we not only generated buzz but also introduced them to the Mealzo platform and partners local to them for their next takeaway.
Fuelling Orders with Saver Campaigns
This year, Mealzo achieved remarkable success in supporting our partners through successful marketing campaigns, propelling order numbers to new heights and boosting business across the board. At the beginning of the year, we introduced the Saver Sunday campaign, offering family-focused customers a new incentive to order big with their local takeaways, which resulted in a noticeable difference in order size for our partners.
Building on this momentum, our Juicy Wednesday campaign quickly captured attention across the nation, with thousands using the £4 off discount code to save on their mid-week takeaway. By creating excitement among customers through layered marketing, we delivered sustained growth for the growing number of partners taking part, making their Wednesdays as busy as Fridays!
Bold Billboards in Birmingham
Alongside our digital efforts, Mealzo expanded its presence in the physical world by spreading the highly successful billboard campaign from the central belt of Scotland to the West Midlands. By illustrating the best that Mealzo has to offer with bold visuals of delicious discounts, for months dozens of streets were illuminated across the length and breadth of Birmingham. As a result, the presence of Mealzo in the area has never been stronger, with a sizeable increase in website and app users being registered across the campaign.
Our Commitment to Change
This year Mealzo was honoured to receive the 1% for the Planet certification, marking a significant milestone in our journey toward sustainability. This recognition means that 1% of every order placed through Mealzo directly contributes to environmental causes, to build towards a more sustainable future for all.
The team also had the incredible privilege of attending the bi-annual Malawi Tomorrow charity event. We are proud to have been part of such a meaningful cause dedicated to creating lasting change and building a brighter future for communities in need. As we look ahead, we remain committed to supporting impactful efforts like Malawi Tomorrow, striving together to make a difference one step at a time.
During the Christmas Season, the team had the honour of volunteering with Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow, during a time of year when giving back holds special meaning. By donating essential supplies, volunteering in the soup kitchen, and providing essential items to those needing an extra hand, we cement our dedication to supporting and giving back to local communities.
Shaping the Future of Food Service Technology
At the heart of Mealzo’s mission lies our unwavering commitment to advancing the technology relied upon by thousands of takeaways, restaurants, cafés, and small businesses across the UK. In 2024, we invested in our core hardware, the EPOS system, improving both their form and function. While the upgraded software runs faster and with less power for a better performance, the sleek but sturdy new design ensures durability needed in the day-to-day of the food service industry.
Similarly, we took significant strides forward in our software, including a complete refresh of our ZoPortal business management app. This wasn’t just a cosmetic upgrade; we packed the interface with new features, including temperature control and enhanced visual financial reporting, making it more indispensable than ever for our partners.
This year also marked the introduction of a range of NFC technologies at competitive prices, designed exclusively for our loyal partners. Our Smart Counter and NFC Table Ordering systems, which offer customers new ways to order, proved to be a huge success, with hundreds within a few months of their launch being installed into takeaways and restaurants. The Google Business Review Stands was also popular, by enabling businesses to enhance their visibility and grow orders by making it easier for customers to leave a review.
